You have to have a nice firm grasp of your equipment when you play sports. Whether you are swinging a tennis racket, gripping a golf club, hitting a softball or anything else of the like, how you hold your piece of equipment can alter how well you play. So then, what is a grip, and what is an overgrip?
It’s crucial to have a firm grip on your gear for several reasons. First, a great grip allows you to better control your movement and accuracy of shots or swings. And if your grip is loose or slipping, you may not even make solid contact with the ball, or generate enough power.
Second, holding on tight can protect you from injury. When you carry your gear properly, you reduce the risk of straining your muscles or injuring your joints. This is particularly true in sports such as tennis or golf, where a poor grip can lead to injury.
When choosing the grip for your sports gear, there are a few things you will want to consider. The first is the material of which the grip is composed. Some gips are rubber, and some are leather or other fake substitutes. Consider your form and your usual stance in deciding on a grip.
In addition to your primary grip, you may also choose to wear an overgrip. An overgrip puts a thin layer of tape on top of your main grip. It gives you better traction and it soaks up sweat. Overgrips can also improve your grip on your equipment even when it’s boiling and humid.
Take care of your equipment To maintain your grip, take care of your equipment. Clean your grip If you clean your grip after every practice or game, you can easily remove the dirt and sweat from the grip. You can also rewrap your grip or overgrip occasionally, to keep it strong and comfortable.
Also, switch out your grip or overgrip when it loses its traction. Just as worn-out sneakers can affect how you play and potentially put you at risk of injury, you shouldn’t be neglecting your equipment, including your golf grip.
